All Shall Be Well
Words by Lady Julian of Norwich and Kathryn Sadler
Music by Kathryn Sadler

SSAB with piano and solo voice(s)

The medieval mystic and anchorite, Lady Julian of Norwich's wonderful words of reassurance set the scene for this song with an opening solo. The simple but effective harmony builds into a full choral sound with contrasting verses which can be done in a variety of ways according to the forces of singers. From the reflection of the opening the piece grows into a full and triumphant finale.
Suitable for a mixed voice high school and community choirs.

A Place by the River
Eddie Perfect arr Sadler

SSA (with optional Baritone) - Accompanied

Eddie Perfect composed this wonderful song for the re-opening of the Hamer Hall after extensive refurbishment, in 2012. He kindly gave Kate permission to create a choral version for Cantabella, her treble choir at the time. The optional baritone part makes this fabulous song very user friendly for high school and community choirs.

This song is being sold by KateSongs on behalf of the composer.

Bella Ciao

Traditional Italian arr Sadler

SSABari - Accompanied

Bella Ciao, originally a women's working song from the late 19th century, became an anthem for the anti-fascist movement in Italy during WW2. This arrangement, premiered by Sounds of Southgate, was much enjoyed by singers and audience alike. It is a simple construction, building as it goes, and is a lot of fun, especially the extended coda which gives it an explosive finish.

Bellbirds
Words and music by Kathryn Sadler

Treble (2, 3 or 4 part) - A cappella

This atmospheric song evokes the sound of the distant city traffic and the Bellbirds themselves, clearly “pinking” away in the treetops. Basically, the two stanzas are two rounds which can be sung in 2 parts, building up the layers to 3 or 4 parts as the singers become secure with the melodies.

The Choristers Prayer
Text 4th Century/Sadler Music Kathryn Sadler

Mixed Voices – A Cappella

I wrote this round for my friends at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Canterbury. Many choirs conclude their practice and worship with this lovely prayer, so I thought it deserved to have a melody. I have made some suggested changes to the text to accommodate inter-denominational occasions and also a complete alternative text of secular words for choirs who believe in the power of music, but would prefer to leave God out of it!

The Dove
Mendelssohn / additional Words and Music Kathryn Sadler

Solo/Treble Choir with SATB – Accompanied

Here you get two for the price of one! Mendelssohn’s much loved “O For the Wings of a Dove” starts this piece (either solo or treble choir) and the SATB “Hymn” beginning with “Peace is the Dove and the Dove is the piece that is missing,” is melodically and harmonically lush. The two musical ideas join together on the repeat. A good song for massed forces of mixed ages, or a concert piece to feature a strong soloist.

Duende
Easy 4 Part - Mixed Voices or Treble Choir – Accompanied
(Ukulele or Guitar – 2 chords only!)

Duende (the only word in the song!) is a wonderful Spanish word which originally meant imp and by association, things magical. It has evolved to be an all encompassing word for passion, energy and artistic excellence. This simple song has four different melodies which when layered, provide for textural contrasts and if being sung adult ensembles, you can have mixed voices on each chant for added depth as the song builds up. The uke (or guitar) accompaniment adds immediate appeal.

Gorgeous Girls (Douce Dame Jolie and Greensleeves) – Marchaud/HenryVIII? Arr. Kate Sadler

SSA/SSA Treble Choir – A Cappella

Double Treble Choir – A Cappella. Here’s two for the price of one! Marchaud’s Douce Dame   and Henry’s Greensleeves all stitched together with a series of easy riffs and the Indian finger cymbals. This starts and ends with a solo and builds to a multi textured delight, before receding back to the final solo. Performed in “surround sound,” this is an absolute winner.

For treble choir in Eb

For women's choir in C

Hymn to St Cecilia
Published in two keys: C for women’s choirs and Eb for treble choirs

A Cappella Hymn to St Cecilia, the patron saint of music (or to whoever, or whatever it is that gives us music!). the song means to express what it is that music does for us in our daily lives. So despite the title, it was conceived as a secular work. Simply constructed, the song is strophic, with each part carrying a verse and the remaining parts accompanying.

Just Sing
Words and Music by Kathryn Sadler

SSA (+optional Bari) – Accompanied

Do what makes your heart sing! Just Sing! Indeed, this song advocates singing as a way of life. Not just for the moment in the shower, or even for when you’re singing with your choir, but every day, in all situations.
Nice and easy but full harmonies with an optional baritone part, so a song suitable for high school and community choirs.

Kia-Ora –
A Maori Welcome – Kathryn Sadler

Mixed Voices – A Cappella (with optional synthesizer)

This multi layered piece is essentially a combination of short chants. Musically it’s very accessible as groups of singers are assigned one of the chants, so there’s very little to have to learn note-wise. Each chant has its own individual flavour, so put together they make for quite an exotic recipe all finished off with some yummy harmonic overtone singing! Thanks to my good colleague Curtis Bayliss and my editor David Wilson for finally helping me put this much requested song on paper.

LAWA - Words and Music Kathryn Sadler
This song is available from Boosey & Hawkes in hard copy.

4 Part Treble – A Cappella

A beautifully unique work, in which intertwining melodies represent four angelic hosts: those of Love, Art, Wisdom, and Adventure, the LAWA of the title. This piece dares singers to explore dramatic vocal expression.

Movers and Shakers – Words Arthur O’Shaughnessy / Music Kathryn Sadler

Easy 4 Part -Mixed Voices or Treble Choir- Accompanied

This is basically an extended 4 part round based on O’Shaughnessy’s poem “We Are The Music Makers.” However, as the ending unfolded the Movers and Shakers, with their descriptive melodic motif, took over and demanded precedence over the opening line! Once the main melody is mastered this is a simple, but effective song.

My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose - Words Robert Burns, Music Trad. arr. Kathryn Sadler

SAB – Accompanied

This beautiful old folk song arrangement was surprisingly a big hit with the mid-teen choir for whom it was written. The boys loved the fact that they had a moment to shine and the girls loved their descant that floated over the top. As well as recommending this for young singers, it has also been a favourite with community choirs where male singer numbers may be low.
