What happens at Private VoiceArt Sessions?

Most VoiceArt lessons will involve both Voice and Art, but weighted according to the needs and aims of the singer and whether it is a one-off session, or part of a larger personal plan.

Who are Private VoiceArt Sessions for?

 VoiceArt is for:
  • Singers (any age) who want a one-off quick fix session, advice or appraisal. Including grade or VCE program “mock” assessments.
  • Singers (18+) who want to achieve long term goals.  Long term goals are best achieved by booking fortnightly VoiceArt sessions and the fortnightly Monday night SongWorks and Performance Skills Classes.
  • Choristers seeking assistance and those with aspirations to be soloists.
  • Colleagues who want help with their voice and/or help with their voice students or choir.
  • LTCL Voice Teacher trainees needing assistance with anything pertaining to their unit 1 and 2 preparation.
Discounts apply to active LTCL students and the singers in Sounds of Southgate.

What do I bring?

If it is your first ever lesson, or you consider yourself rusty, or a novice (regardless of age), just bring yourself and a recording device - your phone memo is fine. You will be advised what is required for future lessons.

Other singers, please bring:
  • Sheet music in an appropriate key. (If in doubt, purchase this through Musicnotes and the correct key can be advised)
  • 2 copies of your sheet music. Your own study copy (this can be a writable PDF) and the hard copy in a folder.  An extra hard copy in a folder will be needed for the accompanist if you attend PSC.
  • Accompaniment for your song in the correct key, where possible.
  • A good quality sound system with radio mics and auxiliary and CD inputs will be available if required.

Singers (18+) are expected to research their own repertoire and purchase original sheet music. All sheet music must be legal. No responsibility is taken for illegal copying.
Please note, there is no music library nor access to photocopying at St John's.

In most cases, singers will be advised to purchase the Voice Preparation Kit to support their vocal development between sessions.

What happens if I can't make my lesson?

  • You can change your session time by clicking on the View/Change my appointment button in your booking email up to 48 hours before your scheduled session.
  • There is a closed Facebook group available called VoiceArt Consultancy to provide a means of communication and for students to feel part of the growing community of singers. If you have chosen to be a member of this group you can request a swap with other singers. You can sell your lesson by this means too.
  • If you are unwell, you might like to FaceTime/Skype Kate and do some step by step steaming or discuss repertoire, interpretation etc. (Private Message Kate on Facebook for Facetime/Skype sessions).
  • You may send a friend or family member in your place.
VAC does not undertake to make up lessons unless the cancellation came from VAC.
If you miss your lesson because none of the above has worked, you will be offered a space in a Performance Skills Class if/when it comes available in lieu of your missed lesson. (Valued at $45)
